Make school budgets easier to explain

Budget Story turns uploaded and imported K-12 budget data into clear, grounded reports for the people who need to understand how resources support students.

What Budget Story Does

Budget Story helps districts move from code-heavy budget exports to readable reports that preserve the underlying facts. It supports current Michigan budget CSV uploads, Grant Navigator imports, and report-time context from district planning sources.

The report engine keeps the factual layer auditable while generating fresh narrative sections for the selected audience, report scope, and available context. That balance lets teams explain allocations without turning every board packet or community update into a manual writing project.

How It Works

The current workflow supports both uploaded budgets and cross-app imports.

1

Bring in budget data

Upload Michigan budget CSVs or import eligible Grant Navigator budgets into a native Budget Story workspace.

2

Choose the report scope

Create a single-budget report, select stored grants, or summarize all eligible grants for a fiscal year.

3

Add planning context

Include MICIP alignment, Grant Navigator context, enrollment data, or Staff Calculator context when those sources are available.

4

Publish a clear report

Generate a stakeholder-ready narrative with print-safe visuals, PDF export, revision controls, and sharing options.

Current Capabilities

Budget Story now covers more than a single uploaded budget.

Grounded report generation

Budget Story v3 reuses deterministic facts and approved context, then writes fresh report sections for each run.

Audience-ready narratives

Reports can be framed for school boards, finance teams, curriculum leaders, staff meetings, and parent/community readers.

Portfolio reporting

Grant portfolios can show allocation structure, recurring themes, grant share, and qualified enrollment comparisons.

Shared district workflow

Paid tiers support report revisions, finalized versions, email sharing, DOCX export on shared-work tiers, and governed district workspaces.

Who It Serves

Budget Story is built for district teams that need controlled, understandable budget communication.

District administrators preparing board or community materials
Finance and curriculum leaders reviewing how dollars support programs
School board and community stakeholders who need plain-language context
